The Inspiration
Tulum, a Mayan city situated on Mexico’s Caribbean coast, was founded between 1200 and 1450 AD. It is home to the Temple of the Frescoes, a beautifully decorated solar observatory which displays the advanced astronomical knowledge of its builders. The people of Tulum revered the Descending God, an enigmatic figure who was thought to have represented the gods’ descent into the mortal realm, and many depictions of him have been discovered throughout the ancient city. The landscape surrounding Tulum is also rich in natural wonders, with vanilla and papaya being native to the region. The Mayans are believed to have been the first to have domesticated papaya, using it for both food and medicinal purposes. These scents perfectly capture the essence of Tulum, inviting you to experience this lost city in all its splendour once more.
