The Inspiration
Various world mythologies speak of goddesses of the night: deities who embody the wonders of the darkness. In Greek mythology, Nyx is the primordial personification of the night, said to wield a power that surpasses even that of Zeus. Other cultures also have similar, albeit lesser known deities: in Brazilian Tupi lore, the moon goddess Jaci is the protector of both animals and lovers, capable of transforming people into mermaids, whilst in Maori mythology, Ika-roa is a giant fish said to dwell in the Milky Way: a mother goddess who gave birth to the stars. With their mysterious and multifaceted characters, these night goddesses represent the complexities of nature and life. They inspire a range of emotions and associations, from the peacefulness of a moonlit evening to the mysterious, awe-inspiring beauty of the starry sky.
