The Inspiration
Before its devastation by Mount Vesuvius in 79 AD, Pompeii, located in present-day Campania, was a vibrant port city. Brimming with lively marketplaces, temples and bathhouses, the city boasted a rich cultural life, which is evident in the stunning frescoes that have been unearthed. As a result, the extraordinary preservation of Pompeii provides fascinating glimpses into daily life during the Roman era. The Mediterranean climate of the lands surrounding the city allowed Roman dietary staples such as olives and thyme to flourish. The fusion of these aromas incredibly resurrects the ancient atmosphere of this city, once bursting with life and now poignantly preserved by time.
