The Inspiration
Skiringssal, also known as Kaupang, was a Viking Age town in Norway. Founded in approximately 800 AD, it is recognized as one of the country’s oldest urban settlements, having served as a vital hub for both trade and craftsmanship. Excavations at the site have uncovered a wealth of relics which have shed light on daily life during this era. Local artisans incorporated mythology into intricate metalwork and wood carvings, as evidenced by the many amulets found in local gravesites. Nestled between the Oslofjord and Norway’s expansive pine forests, Skiringssal thrived in an environment rich in natural beauty. Our Skiringssal candle draws its inspiration from these surrounding woodlands, which still stand today, perpetually imbued with the beauty of nature and her ethereal mystery.
