Description
The Inspiration
Yotkan, situated in northwest China, was once the capitol of the ancient kingdom of Khotan. Built on an oasis in the Taklamakan Desert, this enigmatic kingdom served as a vital center of Buddhism from its founding in 300BC, right up until the 11th century AD, attracting pilgrims and scholars from across Asia. Monks and scholars would undertake the journey along the Silk Road so that they could study in the city, leaving a rich legacy of Buddhist heritage in the region. In Buddhism, the lotus is symbolic of spiritual enlightenment, wisdom and compassion, a revered emblem of purity rising from the mud. Additionally, camellia flowers are native to China, the leaves and buds being the source of many types of tea. Through their harmonius blending, our Yotkan candle becomes a sensory portal, inviting you to breathe in the serene floral aromas which once wafted through this spiritual oasis.
